The BEM Complex is made up of four state-of-the-art buildings that will house researchers. These buildings are the most modern and most expensive buildings ever to be constructed at Georgia Tech.  The Molecular/Materials Science and Engineering (MMS&E) is a 250,000 SF facility. 

 

ECS Involvement:

Our integrated services included locating utilities, drilling of soil borings by drill crews under our direct supervision, PID screening at selected areas, laboratory testing of representative soil samples for pertinent engineering properties, and preparation of a complete engineering report.

 

·         Performed 10 Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings to auger refusal depths spaced generally on a grid pattern across the site and 2 SPT shallow borings for the roadway alignment located on the east area of the site. 

·         In three (3) of the borings in the south end of the site, we cored the upper 10 feet of rock to allow us to make an assessment of end bearing and skin friction capacity of the rock for drilled shaft and auger cast pile design.

·         Organic vapor analyzer (OVA) screening and analytical testing of the soil was performed due to nearby underground storage tank (UST) releases that may have impacted the subject property.
